Tooth Extractions La Verne, CA
Nobody relishes the idea of having a tooth pulled. Sometimes, however, teeth can become severely damaged or decayed in where the only treatment option is to remove the tooth. In other instances, teeth may need to be removed to accommodate implants, dentures, or other fixtures. Either way, it is crucial to seek a dentist with the knowledge necessary to ensure your comfort and maximize your safety. Elevated Dentistry is pleased to offer tooth extraction services right here in La Verne, CA.

What is a Tooth Extraction?
If your dentist ever tells you that you need to have a tooth extracted, it may be a little bit concerning. The reality is that this procedure is extremely common, and really nothing to worry about. The tooth extraction process simply involves a tooth being removed because it has become damaged, infected or because your dentist needs to prepare your mouth for further treatment. There are different kinds of tooth extraction that we perform at Elevated Dentistry. Sometimes, a tooth can be removed cleanly and simply, while teeth that are broken may require a more complex procedure.
No matter the type of extraction you require, your dentist can provide you with numbing or sedation options to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

During the Procedure
Once you have received your sedation and your dentist confirms that you are comfortable, it will be time for the tooth to be extracted. There should not be any pain during your tooth extraction, and our staff will be on hand to ensure your comfort.
The Extraction
Many patients have questions about the tooth extraction timeline. For a simple extraction involving a single tooth, the entire process may take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. The process can take longer if it involves multiple teeth, or if you require surgical extraction. Talk to your dentist for a more individualized estimate.

Our aim is for your tooth extraction to be painless. Some patients report feeling a sense of pressure, but you should never feel actual pain. Let your dentist know if you feel pain during your extraction. Your level of anesthesia can be adjusted as necessary.
The cost of a tooth extraction can vary greatly, depending mostly on the type of extraction you require. A higher price point reflects the need for anesthesia, and in some cases, for the use of an operating room. The best way to determine the cost of your tooth extraction is to meet with one of our dentists for a more individualized quote.
Simple tooth extraction is generally considered to be a basic dental service. As such, many dental insurance plans will cover it, at least partially. Surgical teeth extraction may also be covered if it is medically necessary. Of course, you should always check the specific terms of your dental insurance policy.
The amount of time it takes to heal may range from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. You may experience some oozing and bleeding from the tooth socket, but this usually subsides within 12 to 24 hours. Your biggest job during the recovery period will be preventing infection, which you can do by abstaining from smoking, and avoiding brushing/mouthwash near the extraction site for the first 24 hours.
While every patient’s experience is unique, most people who come in for a tooth extraction feel ready to return to work within two or three days.
You will need to leave your gauze bandage in place for about an hour. After that, you may remove it and have something to eat. For the first 24 hours, stick with soft foods or liquids. We would also recommend staying away from hot foods and drinks. And avoid drinking from a straw for those first 24 hours.
You can anticipate a little pain and soreness for a little while; usually, it lasts just for two or three days, but in some instances may persist for up to two weeks. You can usually manage it with over-the-counter pain remedies, and also with the use of an ice pack. You can also ask your dentist about a prescription pain remedy.
